January , 2008 - Double Podium @ Tignes Airwaves!

The halfpipe event at the Tignes Airwaves wrapped up yesterday and completed a very successful weekend for me. I took third place in the "Big Hip" contest as well as 1st place in the Halfpipe. The level of competition was extremely high with strong performances from France's own Kevin Rolland and Xavier Bertoni as well as by Tucker Perkins, Tanner Rainville, Kalle Leinonen, AJ Kemppainen and others.

Results were:
Big Hip:
1st - Tucker Perkins 27.0
2nd - Kalle Leinonen 26.0
3rd - Mike Riddle 25.5

Pipe:
1st - Mike Riddle 27.0
2nd - Kevin Rolland 25.1
3rd - Kalle Leinonen 24.1

Just got back from the Icer Air Big Air Event in San Francisco. This thing went off! There were a reported 35,000 spectators that came to the event on Saturday. I finished 5th out of 14 skiers...not bad for a someone most people consider solely a pipe skier...Watch out in the near future!!
The setup this year was great and there were nothing but good vibes about the jump... Jon's contributions to the construction made for a huge improvement from last year's event.
Results from finals were:
1. Jon Olsson
2. Simon Dumont
3. Sammy Carlson
4. Tanner Rainville
5. Mike Riddle
6. Sean Fields
7. TJ Schiller
I had a great time at this event and am excited to have kicked off the season at such a quality event. Bringing big events like this to large cities gives a new audience the chance to experience winter action sports and the athletes also get to do something that is really unique...how many people can say they've skied in a Major League Baseball stadium?

Here are some pictures from the event:

Video From Icer Air

This is a video from Jon Olsson's video blog that has footage of all the finalists...Once I get dialed in a bit more I hope to post some original videos of my own but for now I'm just going to borrow this one...
Hope you enjoyed the update.
Cheers,

Class is in session for me at the University of Alberta. I can't wait to wrap up fall semester and start the ski season in mid-December. I will be attending the Freshtival Movie Premieres in Calgary this weekend. I also recieved a spot in the Icer Air event in San Francisco so I'll be in SanFran from Nov 2-4...

Summer Camp has wrapped up and I'm back home in Edmonton...I just had my wisdom teeth out so I'll be chillin here for a bit. I'm planning on doing some water ramping at the end of August at either Grande Prairie or Calgary so before that will be my "hang out at the lake time"; the one time of the year that's neither skiing or school related. I'm looking forward to relaxing for a bit...

The season has recently wrapped up for me. I finished my competition season strongly at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival In Whistler with a first place finish in both the Stompede and the Superpipe Event. I also won the Superhit competition and walked away with a trip for two to Greece. From there I travelled to Aspen for a Teton Gravity Research (TGR) shoot for a couple days and then straight to Mexico for a week of fun in the sun. I just got home and will spend the next month here resting up and doing some dryland training before heading off to Whistler for the summer to work with Momentum Ski Camps.
